Win98 SE / Java / IE5.5

Hi, I can't find my first message.  Java has died on my machine.  I have overwritten IE5.5 with a new verson.  Java is still dead.  Will a re-install of WIN98SE over the current version fix this?  I was going to back up my current system incase something happened.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

possibly, it fixes some problems sometimes, did you try to download Java for Windows Seperately??
