Win98 or Win98SE?

I upgraded my PC this weekend (new mobo, CPU [1.4Mhz], RAM [512 DDR2100], case). I did a clean install of Win98 and found I have a licensed copy of Win98SE.

Is it worth installing Win98SE at this point and time? I think SE has some advantages for networks?

Can I install over the Win98 version (I usually do a new install periodically). I have already installed some software as MS Office, and Eudora.

My son will be playing games (Star Wars being the most impact on hardware). And I have a wireless network running that accesses the DSL modem on my other computer. The network is up and running on the upgrade.

Appreciate any opinions.

I'm struggling to remember why, but I distinctly remember that 98SE was a significant improvement over win98. Its incredible how fast I forget this stuff!
I think there were networking improvement, improved USB support, um...
Oh yes, and the original win98 used to crash pretty much once a day. When I upgraded to 98SE I could sometimes go 3 or 4 days!

As to whether you can install over 98, that would depend on whether you had an upgrade copy, or an OEM copy, I assume.

If you download all the updates and patches, you'll have the same as SE minus 1 or 2 minor items.
Microsoft is discontinuing its support of 98/SE, so I'm not too sure how much longer you'll be able to keep it/them updated. I'd look for something a lot more secure and servicable like 2K (my choise) or XP for your future needs.

Thanks guys... my other computer is running Win2000. There are a couple of programs that I want to keep the Win98 for. One is a CD menu program that is an older version not compatible with 2000. I need it for work.

PS I see that Farscape has the same board as I do. Both of my PCs now have that board. This whole upgrade thing started when I got the mobo used for $15; couldn't pass it up. Originally (or so I tell my wife) I got it as a "backup" for my 2000 machine. But when I saw the prices people were getting for my old mobo (ASUS P5A-B) and AMD 450 K6-3, I figured I could upgrade to an AMD 1600+ and new case for not much extra. BTW, the OLD case was a 66MHZ case with NO fans and a keylock! Bout time for a change!

And to ramble on, the upgrade accesses the internet a lot faster than before. Through the wireless network and DSL modem. So I am a happy guy.

Microsoft will stop support, But there going to offer a update CD, of course MS will chare you for it.
I been beta testing their 98 / 98SE / ME update cd RC1 and so far ok. Just didn't like the fact it installs window media player 9 automaticly, but you can uninstall it afterwards.
