Hi,
Friend's computer that i haven't seen yet, but they will be bringing it down in a few days.

Win98se -
compaq p3 600mhz [ish]

While it was running thro a defrag, came up with an error - not been told exact error, but something like
AN ERROR has OCCURRED - system needs to be restarted.
Now, I know that when something happens during a win9x native defrag - oh dear...... most of the time

Now, everytime it boots up, even to safe mode, it comes up with scandisk scrreen, then win98 screen, then a window with something like 'this program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down."
When she clicks the button -
"Explorer.exe caused an invalid page fault in module explorer.exe at 016f:00401431" and some registers.

Am going to install win98se on top of existing if noone has any better ideas.
Thanx in advance -
am going to bed now, so don't be p'd off if you don't get an immediate thank you. ;-)

don't install on top of that crap. do it fresh. they've probably just been surfin the net and got all clogged up with who knows what.

i had a laptop come in a couple weeks ago that had kernel32 and other lame windows errors galore every time you tried to run ANYTHING. know what fixed his system? its hilarious but adaware fixed it. can't say enough about 3 prgs that most casual users know nothing about but SHOULD - AA, Spybot & Ccleaner.

yeah - i completely agree- trouble is that it wont boot into windows to do a scan.
i never used ccleaner, but the other 2 are the new testament, and the old testament :)

I'm willing to reinstall just to get it working, but you can guarantee that no usernames/passwords/configs have been written down, and, this way, at least, I'm not going to get another 12 phonecalls asking me what their username is, or what was their passwork........
