win98 2 win2k LAN

All is fine with both machines looking and talking to one another, but when I try to use IPX protocol for gaming, with Red Alert 2 and Colin MCrae 2, neither of the machines can see each other.
Westwood reckons there is a conflict with these two operating systems, and also suggest making a generic IP address 00.00.00.00

I dont understand. How do I do this, and will it mess up the way my machines talk to each other in windows.

Can anyone help with the above, or tell me straight if they will not work together over the LAN for gaming.

Thanks

Lee
