Careful KB2952664 (Definitely Bad) and KB3083710 (Don't know whether to trust it) also showed as Optional updates.

Hide all 3 Updates and see what happens Next Month.

This is Bullshit from MS.

I read some where there a Class Action Suit against MS over this CRAP!

I'm getting sick and tired of protecting my OS from this &^*@ and having to reboot several times every month to protect my registry.

They are both in the list brah:
Doesn't mean the updates are not installed on you OS and they are hidden that they will not show up the next month.

Makes you wonder if Homeland Security controls Windows and Bill Gates sold out to NSA and I'm Canadian - Go Figure - The Win7's 3035583 WinX Plague is no longer a Windows glitch in my opinion.

What exactly showed up? Just the update in Windows Update, or did the actual Windows 10 nag in the tray come back?
No I do not get the WinX Icon in the SystemTray as I have no GWX entry's in the Registry or and GWX folders. I just just don't want to be nagged and keep track of KB updates that wants to eliminate my Win7 SP1 Ultimate 64-Bit OS every month.

However you might be on to something. Say you load KB 3035583 onto Win7 and find away to disable it so you will will not be nagged with any further updates to install WinX?

I got no solution - That's why I posted this thread.

Obviously you can't keep the updates you want hidden anymore on an older Win OS with the introduction of WinX - and it's considered an UpDate - Siish!

As far as I'm concerned, WinX is an Online Cyber attack from MS and we have rights in a Free Society.

If MS doesn't FIX this I'll be booting LINUX or BSD on my next upgrade.

Oubadah: Thankyou. I take you read the following paragraph in that post

Will give it go on your advice but not before I Image a Backup of my existing setup.

Time and Date is 10:38 PM Friday, October, 2015 - That &^%$*& KB3035583 NAG showed up again in the MS monthly Update on my Win7 SP1 64-Bit Ultimate OS.

So I'm going to HIDE it again and delete the useless Reg GWX entry in the registry I put in last month plus I don't have any GWX (Get Windows 10) directories in my system or any of the above updates that BerryRacer refers to.

*&^$ MS for this CRAP.

Did you uncheck the box I told you to uncheck in the Windows Update settings? The Recommended Updates one?

Like I've said before, of the dozens of PCs I manage I have yet to have one try again with that box unchecked.

Sparky: I guess I messed your previous post regarding this FIX.

Giving it try now before taking on Oubadah's solution.

Will let you know next month.

Hope it's this simple ;o)

PS:
I also disabled "Show me detailed notifications when new Microsoft software is available"

OK - Date Oct 13th, 2015 MS released their Monthly Updates.

I did not get that dreaded KB3035583 update or any telemetry updates but did get a kernel update which was rather interesting as we don't get them often.

WOWA!

I suggest you DO NOT use Berry's reference to the BAT file he suggests if you have UpDated IE to a newer version as it will uninstall the newer version of IE and revert it back to IE8 that originally came with Win7.

I suggest you use the BAT File below containing to following info:

-------------------
@echo off
echo [---Uninstalling updates, please be patient---]
wusa /uninstall /kb:971033 /quiet /norestart
wusa /uninstall /kb:2902907 /quiet /norestart
wusa /uninstall /kb:2952664 /quiet /norestart
wusa /uninstall /kb:2990214 /quiet /norestart
wusa /uninstall /kb:2999226 /quiet /norestart
wusa /uninstall /kb:3021917 /quiet /norestart
wusa /uninstall /kb:3022345 /quiet /norestart
wusa /uninstall /kb:3035583 /quiet /norestart
wusa /uninstall /kb:3050265 /quiet /norestart
wusa /uninstall /kb:3063822 /quiet /norestart
wusa /uninstall /kb:3068708 /quiet /norestart
wusa /uninstall /kb:3080149 /quiet /norestart
wusa /uninstall /kb:3083324 /quiet /norestart
wusa /uninstall /kb:3090045 /quiet /norestart
echo [---Uninstall complete, restart your computer to finish---]
-------------------
UpDated - Can't say that KB3090045 really does anything to protect your Win7 SP1 64-Bit OS from GWX - But it doesn't hurt ;o)

Once you run the Bat File - Reboot and elect to hide any of the new updates you see in the Bat List. Most of them will be in the OPTIONAL Update list.

Also Disable "Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates" and "Show me detailed notifications when new Microsoft software is available" in Windows Update/Change Settings if you have this one.

Reboot and make a Registry Backup.

PS: Delete any directory named GWX in your Win7 or 8 OS Partition.

Over 3 months trying to fix this GWX NAG - Hope this works.

It seems to have worked this month - I'm not convinced until I get a further batch of updates from MS next month.

X-Fingers and thanks for AT Members input and interest in this Post as I see numerous posts on the forum relative to the same issue.

With MS pushing WinX through their updates, if you haven't already, you may possibly loose the Windows Update Icon in Win7's System Tray even when there are update available after the concerned updates have been removed - The Icons and Notifications area will report Icon inactive although updates are waiting - a real pain for which no one yet has yet found a definitive fix.

An alternative is to download Windows Update Notifier intended for Win8 but it works just fine in Win7 here: https://wun.codeplex.com/

This is bizarre...

Following your post, I checked for updates... and I get the 'upgrade to w10' update screen... but I don't have the icon in my tray. Further, after checking for updates, the W10 upgrade shows up as an optional update, again. I hid the update, but I hope this isn't a regular thing.

I've went ahead and installed all updates except 2952664 and 3035583, and applied the registry key, but now I'm seeing both of those KB's as installed? I'll have to dig around and see what else is going on... :(

EDIT: Yea, the W10 update screen continues to show up (but no tray icon.) I uninstalled 2664 and 5583 again, they showed up as installed again, I uninstalled them again... and they seem to not be coming back. *sigh* What next?

EDIT #2: I uninstalled everything back to SEP (which, for me, included all the nixed W10 and telemetry updates) and reinstalled the security updates going forward. The W10 update WU screen has since disappeared again. Here is what my hidden update screen looks like... oddly enough, 2x 2664, 2x 5583, and 3x W10 updates???

Windows 10 upgrade showed up on our Domain today, it's in the optional update section, but the box is automatically being checked.

There must be a way to stop this on a domain.

When was this update released.. It seems our domain admin has not allowed it to be installed on our domain systems or it hasn't hit our wsus

The Windows 10 Upgrade updates are automatically blocked on any domain joined computer, whether you use WSUS or automatic updates. I'm sure MS realized heads would roll if structured domain users across the globe suddenly started updating their own PCs to Windows 10 outside the purview of their internal IT departments.

If you want to upgrade a domain joined PC to Windows 10 via the free upgrade program you have to manually install the required prereq updates and Win 10 upgrade update.

No it's not automatically blocked on domains. It showed up on ours today, on everybody's computers. It's in optional updates, but the box IS checked by default.

We had to manually block it with a group policy update.

This is interesting, as the Windows 10 update just showed up on my work laptop as well. The update went fine on a cloned drive, but I will be keeping the laptop on 7 for now.

This Win10 GWX for Free is utterly a mess from MS and I can't find why Win7 looses it's Window Update Notification in the Sys-Tray ONLY when there are UpDates on hand. As I say Win8's WindowsUpdateNotification Icon App does good in Win7 if you experience this. Win8 never came with this option.

Honestly I'm still not convinced that Disabling "Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates" is the solution but I'm playing with it.

That solution is "best bang for your bucks" right now, all others will require more fiddling with the WU.

It's sad but it's coming we're going to be in an Encrypted Cloud where only NSA, CISIS and MI6 have the keys. If it comes to that point, I may just fire up my WinSE Tower and browse P2P or boot Linux and BSD Dialup Free BBS FTP sites providing there's any Bandwidth left.

I still have a ZIP copy of Win3.11/Dos 6.1 OS on file. There's no end to how far things can go to stay out of a cloud - LOL

PS: It makes me wonder if KB3083710 may resolve Win7's Update Client and FIX Win7's loss of the Windows Update Notification ICON when updates are indeed present in spite of Telemetry and their GWX updates with a little byte of redemption?

I reverted to Windows 7, either by restoring from an image or doing a clean install (can't remember which).
BS, a DOS Boot to 1.32 MB file named GHOST.EXE is a savior to revert to any OS, Windows, Linux or BSD.

Explain what you don't remember and be explicit.

Granted you have to reserve a series of FAT32, 32 GB Partitions to use DOS GHOST preferable on a separate Drive or Bootable USB Thumb.

KISS if you know what you're doing, besides we are getting off topic.
