Howdy,

I'm trying to get stereo audio to play back on my 5.1 speaker system. I'm running an nforce 4 430 chipset (based on the Realtek ALC880 chip). I've only been able to get windows to see it as a generic HD audio device, but I can't get stereo files to playback in 5.1. I've tried using AC3 Filter, but it doesn't seem to do the trick. 5.1 sound does play back properly in DVDs. Anyone know the trick for getting music to play as 5.1 sound with this chip? Drivers? Some sort of software?

Thanks.

I did. They didn't address the problem nor come with any sort of audio management software (which I can't seem to find ANYwhere.)

What specific make and model of motherboard do you have?

In the Realtek HD Audio manager, is there a "Speaker Fill" option (probably at the bottom of the screen on the Speakers tab)? If so, select it. Another thing to try is to also select the ˝Swap Center/Subwoofer Output˝ option (probably under the Advanced Settings menu, for some reason it sometimes makes a difference in Win7).

In Win7 control panel, you can also try to force 5.1 speaker setup under the Sound applet.

The motherboard is the MSI K8NGM2 featuring the NVIDIA Geforce 6150 + nforce 430 chipset. I'm well aware that I have to upconvert stereo sources to 5.1, which is why I posted in this forum to inquire about obtaining the software to do so.
I can not find a Realtek HD Audio Manager anywhere on my system or the internet (I spent 3+ hours and tried DLing from the motherboard manufacturer. Realtek no longer offers the software on their website, just the drivers). I would like to find the Realtek HD audio manager for Windows 7 64-bit OS, but have not been able to do so. I was hoping someone here may know where it can be downloaded in a legal fashion.
I'll try an uninstall of the existing driver and replace it with the "driver only" from realtek once again, but I'm pretty sure that won't install the realtek audio manager that I need for "speaker fill."
