win2k won't even boot!!!

Here I got the problem three times! I reinstalled twice but this time I'd like to see if I can recover it without wash out everything on my HD. the problem is:

I was trying use usb to connect pc to digicam. after I plug in usb cable win2k autodetected the digicam and ask for usb drivers to be installed. I thought win2k should have this driver so I just ask pc to auto scan it from win2k CD. It picked one(forgot the filename) and installed it. then ask for rebooting. after restart, I got bluescreen. at the top line it says like "NOT_ACCESSABLE_DEVICE_ERROR" occured and ask me to check my HD for virus or uninstall HD controllers. I tried safemode and no luck. this happened in the very early stage of win2k bootup. everything else is fine because I can still boot into win98 on the same HD.

I don't know in which way I can ever recover it. anyone had this problem before ? thanks!

First things first, you should have an ERD (Emergency Repair Disk). Use this disk to restore the OS to a state that worked (it'll essentially restore the boot and ini files to as they were when u made the ERD). You can boot off the w2k cd and go into repair options. Try the fast repair first, that'll do a quick scan and repair any obvious damage. If that doesn't work, u'll need to either use the recovery console (also found in repair options) or boot into safe mode and try to correct the wrong. Sounds like you just need to remove the driver.

You should really make an ERD if u don't have one. They come in very handy, and would fix this problem with ease. There's even an option to restore the registry while making the ERD. Consider it, especially if this happens as often as you say.

Hope that helps...
