Hey guys, this is a pesky little problem im having. Windows 2000 when I first power the machine up goes all the way to where you would normally see the mouse cursor pop up, and then just sits at the defualt blue background screen. When I reset the machine goes all the way into windows, everytime. The only thing I think it could be is some sort of power issue. I have an alcatel USB modem and scanner, and im wondering if those could possibly hold the thing up. I took off the scanner and it still sat at the blue screen. I kinda need the modem. I was also wondering if maybe a defrag would help? Please, any suggestions would help, im out of ideas. Thanks.

A defrag is unlikely to help.

Disconnect the modem to make sure that it is definitely the cause. If your system still cannot cold boot with the modem connected, then the cause is something else.

Make sure that you have the latest drivers for your modem.

You might also want to make sure that you have the latest BIOS for your motherboard, as well as the VIA 4-in-1 drivers.

there is a kt266 issue with USB and FSB at 138 + but it does not sound like that is the problem since a reset works. Just try with both unplugged to see if that is the problem you can always plug it back in once you enter windows since USB is hot pluggable

could it be something to do with the mouse possibly. My only thought for that is that it seems to stop responding right before the mouse pointer shows on the screen. I updated all the drivers for the mouse, modem, and scanner. The mouse is in the PS/2 port as of now. Any one else have suggestions?

Hi,
I had the same problem with the k7t pro2a and the tnt2 ultra. What drivers are you running? Try the latest offical by nvidia. Fixed it for me

im running the latest by creative, I tried the nvidia drivers, det3's but for some reason it would allow me to use openGL mode in HL. if you could, would you be so kind to send me a link to the drivers you are using. Sounds like you might have found my culprit, as for I have a tnt2 ultra as well.
