Win2K will not allow me to change the wallpaper...whats up with that?

Well,
If I am logged on to the new machine which uses Win2K, I can change the desktop wallpaper.
If I am logged on as Administrator, I can change the desktop wallpaper.
BUT....If my boss, the owner of the machine, logs on, he cannot change the desktop wallpaper image. I have checked, and the image IS on the machine. Also, I gave him administrator privilieges so that could not keep him from changing settings.

What do yo think is going on?

You need to post more details. How is he trying to change the wallpaper? Does he get any error messages when he tries it?

Here is the skinny.
My boss logs onto the network. Right click on the deskop, select properties, and gain acces to the "Display Properties" window. Now, he selects the "Background" tab so he can change the "Pattern." Now some of the patterns require active desktop, which we do not use, but even the simple bitmaps will not work. Here is what happens....He selects a pattern, and then hits the "apply" button. When he does this, the "apply" button becomes blanked out. Nothing else, no wallpaper change or anything, just the blanking out of the button. There are no error messages either.

I hope this is a good enough description of what is going on.

Is he logging into the local machine or into a domain?

Logging into the domain.
OH, and it is not the "patterns" as I stated earlier, but "Select an image or HTML document to set as windows wallpaper".

Also, I have tried using his roaming profile, and tried setting his profile as local. Does not seem to help things.

Try to setup a temporary local profile for him and give him administrator rights. Log into the local machine using that temp profile and see if you can change the wallpaper.

It looks to me like your Win2k machine is using a network policy from your domain which might overwrite your local profile rights. Try changing the following registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Update\UpdateMode from a value of 1 to a value of 0 and reboot; this will stop your Win2k from looking and using a network policy.

Thank yo so much. I am pretty new to network administration, and this one was unlike anything I had seen. All I had to do was give him admin rights on the local machine. I am not even sure how I found this. It was in the control panel somewhere.
