Win2k, UT and a Via chipset = Awful performance: help!

I am running UT on Win 2k and the game is cache almost all the time and the game play is terrible.
I am using detonator 6.18 drivers, i tried 6.31 and things were worse
I have tried UT patch 4.32 and 4.36
I have logged on to 2k as a power user, admin, reg user
I have d/l all the Win2k updates

I am just wondering if there is a Via issue that needs to be resolved, or something else you guys know about

I can think of three things to investigate: do you have the Via 4 in 1 drivers installed; what kind of hard drive do you have; and do you have solid sound card drivers installed? You've got plenty of RAM and the processor is certainly fast enough, so it has to be a bus or periperal problem.

You can get the 4 in 1 drivers at

http://www.viahardware.com

Only install the AGP driver.. If you haven't already installed this driver then I am pretty sure this will fix your problem.

i am running a Mx300 with the defaukt win 2000 drivers (no apparent probs)
I am running the 4 in 1 drivers
My drive it a seagate barracuda ata 66 15 gig drive (although i sometimes wonder if the dma is working properly)
