win2k slow performance...?

I have a P3-850, 458mb RAM, running windows 2000 Pro..

Would like to know if there are any tips or tricks to boost the performance of running applications etc, or the general speed of windows 2000 - as it seems it's not running as fast as it could be.

It seems sometimes like it's running on a celeron 400 with 64mb of RAM. It's stopped it recently, but i have heard that you can adjust somethin with the settings so it allows maximum performance

Cheers..

Perhaps you mean the swapfile. If so goto control panel. system/ advanced/ performance settings/ virtual memory and set it to 1.5X times your RAM.

You also may want to disable the indexing service in control panel, administration tools, services.

Thanks very much GFORCE100 for your help

A quick question, what do u think would happen if i set that virtual memory to 2x or 3x my RAM ?

Better or Worse results ?

Thanks

You might get marginally better results but nothing drastic.

Make sure the minimum swapfile size is at least equal to that of your physcal RAM.
