win2k shutdown doesn't power off computer?

hey, i just installed win2k for the first time and i'm mostly loving it, but kind of annoyed at the shutdown - whereas win98 actually powered off my computer, win2k just throws up the lame "it is now safe to shutdown your computer" like win95 used to do. is this what's supposed to happen, or is my system acting flaky?

what are your system specs?
chance are the default installation didn't load the ACPI components.
Check under "Computer" in device manager and see what it says.
