Win2K Setup

System freezes while trying to setup Win2K. Tried switching ide channels, hard drives, cd drives and different cds for win2k. win98 boots fine. used to be fine with win2k also but after it crashed today it won't let me boot and also won't let me reinstall. is it a motherboard problem?

system is athlon 600, impressions as771 (kx 133), maxtor udma66 7200 rpm, 20.4 gb, 128 mb RAM (PNY), 56x cdrom i/omagic. let me know if you want any more system specification.

did you install your harddrive controller ? from wat i know is ....when we setting up win2k from the beginning it will ask us to install the controller for scsi or UDMA hardware.If you didnt install the win2k will hang or crash i esperience that before when i install win2k ... well...thast all i know

If you still have your Win2K installed, boot off the Win2K disc and run the repair options or the recovery console. (As I reread your post, setup is freezing). Is your machine freezing or are you getting stop errors? Tried taking out all the cards except video? If you installed the recovery console, you can try running chkdsk. Is your disc surface clean?

Well when i try to boot from the win2k disk. it freezes before I can go to scan disk just after it loads the start up files.. like cdrom driver.. ect after copying those first set of files it say start set up win 2000 and stops right there everytime with all different hardware combinations and yeah i took out everything from the comp except the video card.. Ram hard drive cd rom and floppy drive.

Bad ram: stores up to the defective chip, then crashes. A friend of mine had the same problem, hi misinstalled a dimm bank and nothing would complete installation: w98, 95, NT4, Linux, DOS....
Put the bank in order => perfect.
