I have seen posts here referring to an option in Win2k when you right click on an application and you can select what OS you want the application to thinks it running under.
Does that make any sense? I swear I have read that somewhere :)

If you have any idea what I am talking about please fill me in :)

Thanks

I think maybe what you are referring to is when you right click on a file and you have the option to open it with any program on your computer. If you can do what you said, I'd be interested in knowing how also.

This feature will be in Windows XP. You probably read about this in a preview article

The latest compatibility update for W2K has the feature. It adds a Compatibility tab to the file's Properties dialog.

It seems that the update is for games . Is it necessary or benefical to update, just for fine tuning??

Good question! Naturally, I don't know the answer. :D

If you run anything that needs to believe it's running in a previous OS, I suppose the compatibility tab in the Properties dialog would be beneficial. I doubt that the tweaks specifically tailored to make the listed games work would benefit other apps, but who knows? At least it hasn't done any apparent harm on my systems. All of my W2K boxes do exactly what they're supposed to do. I just can't get over it!
