Win2k problem

I revently installed win2k(a couple of weeks ago) after getting rid of XP. I wanted to see if my computer would still have problems coming out of standby so I tried it. All seemed well until I logged off and then tried to log back in. It said my profile was corrupt or damaged or something so it loaded the default. I though to myself "oh sh*t." Anyway, I log in as Administrator and it does the same thing. I ran a chkdsk /f and restarted. When the computer came back up, My profile was fine but the Administrator's wasnt. Everything was at the defaults. Now my question is, why is my profile perfectly fine while the administrator's is gone? The log from chkdsk didnt show any major errors. Here is the error I got in the log from when trying to log in:


Windows cannot load the user's profile but has logged you on with the default profile for the system.

DETAIL - An attempt was made to reference a token that does not exist.

the only time i have seen such a problem is when my hd was about to die, or was in the process of giong to hell, for some reason it alway seems that profiles are stored right where the bad sector is going to be. Grab a hd checker from your manufacturers website and do a scan, you might have more problems than you think. Ohh yeah BACK UP!

Its not the hard drive. I think its my motherboard. Everytime my computer has come out of standby, something involving the IDE controller has screwed up. In WinXP my hard drive would go into PIO mode and then my computer would lock up. In win2k, files start gettting corrupt. If I dont ever let my computer go into standby mode, I never have any problems.

Try running Win2K repair from the CD. Also disable the auto standby for now until you get things right. You may do more damage keeping it enabled.

Power management always seems to be a bit iffy, doesn't it? I am wondering:

1) Are you using the latest VIA 4in1 drivers for the chipset?
2) Turtle Beach has recently released a Santa Cruz driver that fixed some Win2k problems, have you installed it?
3) I assume you have a PSU with plenty of standby power, etc?
4) Do the power management settings in the BIOS jive with your Win2k settings?
5) And of course you have installed the appropriate Microsoft service packs etc. ad nauseum?

3. Yes I think... Its a 400w ps so I hope its enough
4. Those settings dont seem to have any effect on whether or not the weird stuff happens.
5. Yes. It happens with SP2 and the SP3 beta which I recently uninstalled.
