Hey all,

Anyone know how to recover/remove/reset an admin password in Win2k? I coerced my girlfriend into installing it by herself, and 3 months later she's forgotten her admin password (she uses auto-logon at boot, so she hasn't had the need to remember it).

Beuller? Anybody??

No such thing. If you don't have another admin level account you can't set computer so the user has to change it. Format and reinstall.

Try creating another user and adding it to the admin group. Use that account to change the administrator account password. That is if the administrator is still auto-logoning on. Make an ERD first so that if you disable auto-logon and it doesnt work, you can use the ERD to go back to the way it is now. Dont forget to backup the registry while you are there.

I dont know if that will work, but you can try it....

If you have win2k on a fat32 partition you can change the attrib of the SAM file (-r -h -s)& rename it. When you reboot win2k will start w/administrator w/no password, just hit enter. If it's a NTFS partition try the above post or do a search on these forums.

Does she logon with the ADMIN account, or her own? If she logs on with her own account, you can change the password by pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL, then clicking on the CHANGE PASSWORD button.

(I was on spring break right after I posted my ?) Ehhxcellent. You guys are the bizomb. ;) She's a member of the Admin group, so it looks like I'm going to be able to just change the Administrator password, log on as Administrator, and do the same thing for her log on.

Thanks a million.
