Win2k or Xp?

Martin

well, I need to reformat soon, and I was wondering if I should just reinstall win2k (my current os) or go for xp pro?

are there any read benefits to xp?

Stick with windows 2000. There isn't much of a reason to switch to XP unless you are still in the stone ages (read: running windows 98).

windows98 will only be in the stone age when 2000/XP can do all the things I do in 98;
and of the two, XP is a lot closer to the functionality I'm looking for.

I have both installed (XP and 2K) and really haven't noticed a huge difference between the two besides interface tweaks. I just downloaded IE 6.0 for 2k and I really could care less about Media Player 8.0. I have a firewall already and use pcAnywhere for remote desktop functionality. So all the extras that XP offers me really aren't necessary for my needs.

Even so, I'm sure I will be fully upgrading to XP shortly after it comes out and will ditch 2K. And I do like the slide show mode MS has added to the pictures folder--quite handy, and XP does boot noticeably faster.

I think XP is faster than Windows 2000, even on supposedly older computers. One thing I always do with XP is to change the performance settings to "best performance." This turns off all the eye-candy, shading, etc, and really gives a boost to XP performance.

Thanks for your suggestions. I still don't know which I'll use though. Depends on when I can get my hands on XP...

thanks a lot though
