I have a PIII 500 with 384mb PC 100 Sdram. WD1200JB on a Promise Ultra 100 PCI card. I use the computer to share files on the internet and run a Counter-Strike/Team Fortress server. I want to create a dual boot system with Fedora Core 2 and either Windows 2000 or Windows XP. Which Windows OS would be more stable and run more efficiently (faster?) with the above system? Thanks...not starting a flame war over each OS just wanted opinions.

I'd go with Windows 2000 on that machine. It's the same basic core OS, just without the fluff that's in XP.

Disabling those items in XP is a good idea. I've found that, in general, Windows 2000 is more forgiving on aging hardware. But since it seems that this computer will be used mostly as a server and not as a workstation, any difference in efficiency between 2000 and XP should be negligible.
