My system reboots a couple of minutes into running this visual basic application of mine..

well, obviously something is screwd up. Is there any way to figure out why it did that, what kind of error it had, or is there a way to turn it off?

make sure that your computer is set up to not reboot upon a fatal error. Right click on My Computer then select properties. Click the Advanced tab, then Startup and Recovery near the bottom. Under System Failure you need to Uncheck the box that says Automatically Reboot. You should get an error message then. It reboots right? Not just freezes?

Most of the time there are no error log entries on instantaneous reboots. I have had it happen because of video card driver problems and I never got an error in any of the event logs. Can't hurt to check I guess.

This would be the thing to check, having your computer reboot if it has a fatal error is a great thing if your running a server, however sometimes it's nice to know what happend.
Disabling this function should give you the ever-so-friendly windows bsd (blue screen of death) rather than rebooting on you :)

Right click on My Computer and select Manage. Expand the Event Viewer and you should have 3 items in there: Application, Security and System. There you are.

Whenever my system BSODs (or reboots*) it will put an Information entry in the system log saying something like "the system rebooted from a bugcheck". Why they didn't make it a critical error instead of an information item is beyond me, but that's how it is.

*For some reason, the reboot button on my system doesn't work, and I don't like to toggle the power to reboot it; since it only seems to BSOD when I'm away, it might as well reboot on its own (gotta keep RC5 going; no downtime allowed).

SOMETHING ABOUT NTOSKRNL.EXE? That my friend is not good. That would be the core of your OS.
