win2k memory dump

hi,

while playing black and white, i got a memory dump error.. it's caused by nv4_disp.dll.. i guess it's some compability problem between the game and the detonator driver(12.90).. win2k create a 536mb file called memory.dmp.. what do i suppose to do with it? can i delete it? what does the file do anyway?

thx

Delete it. The entire contents of your RAM and swapfile were dumped to disk. In certain cases, Microsoft can look at the dump and trace the error. In most cases, just don't bother....delete the file. I highly doubt that you would send it to MS and wait for them to go through it.

What you can do in the control panel - system - startup and recovery options is change it to a small file, about 64K actually instead of the few hundred MB you have now.

If MS wants a file they can have that one, I'm not sending them 384 megs just because that's how much memory I have 🙂
