Win2k logon name change

I've picked up a computer locally which has win2k installed on it. Seller gave me the licensed cd with it as he said that the operating system stays with the machine.

What I wanted to know is when win2k boots up, it has the seller's name on it. I have deleted his name from the user's list and added my own, but it still boots up with his name at logon. Do I need to reinstall win2k or is there an easier way without having to reinstall the os and possibly the apps as well.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

You can search the registry for any data from the old owner and replace it with your own.
(Be careful editing your registry, make a backup of it first, one mistake and you could be rebuilding for sure.)

Go to START - RUN - type in REGEDIT
Once it comes up select the search option and enter the name that keeps popping up when you logon.
When it comes up with results, stop the search and change the name to yours, then continue on until you have changed them all.

In Control Panel, open Users and Passwords.
Check "Users must enter a username and password to ...."
Apply that.

If you want to make users type a password when they login, stop here and OK out of the dialogue.
If not...

Uncheck it again and Apply the change.
you will be prompted to type in the username and password that you want the machine to automatically login to.
OK out of the dialogue.
