well ... a friend of mine installed the win2k last week and got some issues related to gaming. some here said that win2k is great for gaming but what he found was everything but quake 3 make the sys to freeze. Q3A on the other hand run faster ... Need for speed V belongs to that freezing list ...

is this right ? he installed the latest voodoo3 series files, from 3dfx ( i know they're old, but should work )

i planned to install win2k, but i see no good time for it ... no gaming, just for me that likes those old ones hehehe i'm a Quake 1 fan i play it vero often so i really wont be glad to fight win2k every time i'd like to play my old and fun Quake 1 CTF 🙂

Need for Speed 5 requires using the Compatibility patch to run....You need SP2 and the compatibility patch....creating a shortcut to the EXE has the 3rd tab for allowing the game to run in an emulated OS such as Win95.

ok ... i have sp2 but no patch ,,, i guess it is not that hard to find ... but the issue is :

will i need to patch and use tricky ways to play my games ?
and my old ones ... dos-based ... ??

Possibly. The older the game, the higher the probability that it won't work properly without some sort of patch or workaround. Check out NT Compatible for more info.

Hahahahaha... Good luck. Win2k's DOS virtual machine isn't compatible with many games due to its restrictions on hardware access (especially sound, although there are ways around it).

Quake1, however, works fine in Win2k if you use GLQuake (which is superior to the VESA-based DOS version anyway).
