Win2K - Is it possible to access a network printer w/o a login/password?

The office's new printer is hooked up to a Win2K box.

I'm now currently in the process of adding the printer to everyone's computers (some are Win98, some W2K). If I go through the "Add Printer" module, it does not allow me to access the new printer. I then need to open up the Windows Explorer, click on the computer it's hooked up to, and it asks for a login/password to access the computer. I then log in as Administrator. After I do that, THEN the printer shows up under Add Printer.

Is there any way to access the printer on this computer without having to log in as Administrator on every other computer? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

have you checked the permissions on the shared printer? While the permissions may be default, that may be too strong for the systems and OSs you are running.

I'm assuming a peer to peer network.
In my experience with Win98 and 2k, you need to have the user name and password from the 98 box on the 2k box, and on the 2k box it has to be int he administrators group in order to share files. I don't know for sure about printers.

however the whole thing you are talking about sounds like a permissions issue. Try playing around with a log in or two and adjusting the permissions on the 2k box and see where it gets you.

You can add the printer as Administrator on the clients only once, then the clients don't have to log on as Administrator but normal user and can use the printer whenever. For win98 it is a bit tricky, and if you are using an HP printer, you can use HP JetDirect.
