i'm trying to upgrade from winME to win2k professional... when i start the upgrade, everything is fine and it gets to the point where it says 'installation will take 50 - 70 minutes. your computer will restart 4 times. you do not need to do anything for the installation. everything is fully automated.' or something like that.

but the first time the computer restarts i get a bluescreen error that says 'unexpected_kernel_mode_trap' it says to check my memory and my video card...

i have a voodoo3 2000. and 64mb of edo ram.
i'm running on one of those upgrade processors from Evergreen technologies. it's a k6-2 400... my motherboard is an old Intel Advanced/EV board... uses the FX chipset i think. i have a feeling that's why win2k isn't working for me... anyone know this for sure? or can anyone help me out with that error message?

thanks.

If there are any drivers that needed for your hardware to work, that may be your problem. I don't know if any of your component do need such drivers, but I do know that it is fairly common to encounter these problems with third party IDE controllers. Not really sure though. It may be helpful to post more detailed information about your configuration.

ok, here's my system setup:

K6-2 400Mhz (Evergreen upgrade cpu)
Intel Advanced/EV motherboard (uses FX chipset i think)
64MB EDO ram
8.4GB Maxtor HD
Sound Blaster AWE64
3dfx Voodoo3 2000 PCI
Sony 32x cd-rom
Plextor 8/4/32 CDRW
Windows ME 4.90.3000

do i need to have the proper win2k drivers and stuff installed BEFORE i upgrade to win2k? i don't think so right? cuz i wouldn't be able to install the win2k drivers anyway if i'm using winME right?

i'm not using any third party IDE controllers... just connecting straight from the motherboard.
somebody please help. :)

check out this link. also, check if your RAM is going bad (reseat the RAM as well). you may also want to downclock the processor 50mhz or so...
