win2k install problem

hey everyone.

im trying to reinstall win2k (sp2 slipstreamed) on my system just now and im getting a really weird problem. When it gets to the gui stage of the install and it is 'detecting your devices' it freezes about half way through the detection.

the last time I re-installed windows I had the same problem but I cant remember how I fixed it! at the moment im running a pretty bare bones system as it is (hd, promise controller card, gf2 and a cdrw). Im booting from the cd and everything seems to run fine up until that point, it is very confusing..

if anyone has any ideas they would be greatly apprecated!

cheers

I had the same problem. The first time I installed win2k. What I was doing wrong was not pressing f6 when it asked for scsi devices
win2k looks at you promise controller as a scsi device. Make sure you have drivers for the promise controller on a floppy b4 you start

thanks but its after that point that the problem occurs.

i think its when it is trying to install drivers for the gfx card that it falls over. I managed to get it installed briefly just there but had to reinstall cos it wouldnt startup properly and Im now stuck at the same point again.

I dont even know what I did to get it installed just there but a commbination of ejecting the cd and re-instering it along with hammering the keyboard seemed to work... but not anymore 🙁

Im really beginning to go nuts now if i cant get this installed soon :|

I wish I could help you, perhaps installing a different video card for the install.. and changing it back after you get the install done

cheers for the help peeps.

i evenyually got it installed, not entirely sure how though! I think the promise card may ahve been the problem, after i removed it and fiddle with some more things it managed to install ok.

Plus the card now doesnt seem to work at all... (looks into dabs.com's rma policy... 😉)

heres hoping it stays stable now!
