i want to install win2k on my hard drive, copy some stuff over and then remove 98. first of all, is this a good idea, and secondly, how big is a regular win2k install ?
A basic install w/ typical features and the latest DirectX is 950 MB. In practice, I find that the WINNT dir gets to be about 1.5 GB after a few dozen program installs and ~6 months of general use.
Why wait to remove 98? Why not just install over it/ upgrade? Where are you copying stuff from?
I just installed Win 2K on a client's machine. Totally straight forward, typical install options only. Immediately installed DX 9 (from the developer's redist). Exactly 940 MB on disk. Differences in size could be from install options and/or diff. cluster sizes (more/less slack).
Initial install is just under 1GB. On my machines, system size stabilises around 1.5GB after a few months of use (there is nothing else on my C: drive, just the OS).
i appreciate the input. i just got a cd-rw and don't really trust it to copy my pictures, music, videos, etc.(stuff i would have to download again) it seems really flaky. i don't know, i guess i should just try it and see.
