Win2k Extremely Slow On AMD 64 3000+

Hey everyone,

I just purchased a brand new system part by part and assembled it myself; however, when attempting to install Win 2k the installation took hours longer than expected. Furthermore, even after installing SP4 the operating system is performing EXTREMELY slowly. I have no idea where the source of the problem could be. Here are the specifications for the computer. Any suggestions would be much much much appreciated.

Antec 450 Watt Power Supply
1 gb(2x512mb) Mushkin PC3200 Ram
Samsung 120 GB IDE Hard Drive
Sony 16x DVD RW
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
MSI NX6600 GT PCI-E video card
Chaintech VNF4 Ultra Motherboard with PCI-E.

Yes I've rebooted many times. I've installed service pack 4, my display drivers, motherboard drivers. It just runs, well, extremely slowly. It seems to "pause" often, or so it seems to me.

I am running Win2k in an AMD 3000+ machine that i built and it is fast.

Check into the bios to see if all of your memory is recognized, run memtest on the memory. Also check to see if there is anything in the bios that does not seem right.

Sorry to hear about your problem and i hope somebody here chimes in with the solution.
