Win2K doesn't see my CDRW when connected via highpoint raid port on Epox board?

Any idea why? My mobo is the Epox 8K7A+ and I am not using the raid capabilities. I just want to use one of the ports to hook up my CDRW since all of my IDE channels are already full. The Highpoint Bios picks it up but WIN2K doesn't see my CDRW. Any reasons? Am I doing something wrong? The Highpoint drivers as far as I can remember, are loaded since the Device Manager under windows can see it under SCSI RAID Controllers. Does it have anything to do with the IDE cable? Do I need to use an ATA100 cable for these extra ports on the mobo? Thanks for the responses.
 
On Asus boards you can use the Promise Raid Controller as 2 more IDE channels. You need to find out if your MB supports this function, it seems so if the Bios finds it. You need to find drivers for the operating system and install them.
 
Let me reiterate. It only works with hard drives. The only way around this is to flash to the regular non-RAID BIOS and install the non-RAID drivers. This, however, means repackaging and flashing your system BIOS which I doubt you know how to do.
 
Put some of your extra hard drives onto the Raid controller, use that as your controller for the ide hard drives.
Put your cdrw onto your other ide controller(either primary or secondary) and everything should work fine.

Like MoMeanMugs said, you can only use hard drives on the Raid controller, so just switch things around and you should have things working fine unless you have more than 3 cd devices and 5 hard drives, which I highly doubt it.
 
Unfortunetly, I'm not familiar with the Epox boards, but if it's a HP370 controller, you CAN use it for cd-roms by flashing the bios of just the controller. They removed the functionality in one of their releases. Unfortunetly, they did so for a reason. Performance from a non-hdd is pitiful, so it really isn't advised. Your best bet as already mentioned is to move your hdd to the raid, and use the standard IDE for the cd-rom
