Win2k: Can the Dr Watson/user.dmp file be deleted safely

My user.dmp file (which seems to be a diagnostic record of NT settings, though I may be wrong) has gotten to be exorbitantly large. I want to delete it, but I'm afraid I'll break the OS and hafta reinstall. Please, one of you NT gurus, gimme a clue about this. Cheers!
