Win2k BSOD every 60 minutes?

I have a strange problem with my win2k machine, which keeps restarting every hour. The error message on the BSOD is something about classpnp.sys. I searched the newsgroups, which pointed to a bad maxtor hard drive. Well, I do have a maxtor hard drive which is attached to the maxtor ultra100 controller that I got from the hot deal forum at staples bundled with a maxtor 60GB hard drive. (Thanks guys!!) Anybody have problem with this controller? The primary ide connecter won't work unless a maxtor hd is on it, i.e. it won't recognize my 40G WD hd unless my maxtor hd is on the same connector. The secondary ide connecter seems to work fine. I checked my maxtor hd with maxtor's powermax utility, and no error was found before the low level format step, which I really don't want to do. Anybody can help me?

Well, I don't have any system specs to work with, but it sounds like you have a ATA-100 Controller card in the system. You might try removing the controller card and attaching the Hard Drives to the primary IDE on the motherboard.

The drive might not run at ATA-100 speeds, but if the BSOD goes away, then at least you will know it's the controller card. I think Promise makes a controller card for ATA-100 Devices that you could use.

Just a thought to narrow it down a bit.
