Win2K and WinXP

Hello,

I've installed WinXP over an existing Win2K install. Well .. not really "over", since I installed to a different folder. Will my 2K install still function? Just curious. If not, that's okay, I'll re-install 2K if I feel the need to. So far so good with XP, everything works perfectly and it's fast.

Any comments?

Oh yes I also have a question. In XP, can you make secure passwords like in 2K? Just wondering. Cuz it isnt' even asking for a password..

2K should work. You can use passwords, just go to "users" in the control panel (I think it's called users, I'm at work so I can't check).

If you installed into a different folder on the same partition, you more than likely will have problems. Win2K and XP both will throw stuff in your \program files\ directory causing version conflicts.
Install to different partitions.

I would stay with w2k for about 5 more months. xp is just w2k with some enhancements and slow downs.

Yes. You didn't do an upgrade, you installed a second OS side by side with your first. You should be able to dual boot.

As for passwords, if you're using Home edition, I think you can go to the Users control panel and change the OS so it requires logon.

You can enforce strong passwords, I think, through a Group Policy Object. Either at the domain, OU, site, or local computer level.

Are you using a CRT or LCD with clear type?

Thanks guys. A little late cause I found out the answers myself, but thanks.

I am using a 15&quot; Optiquest V55 monitor, that is a CRT monitor capable of 1280x1024x60Hz, I run 1024 to 1152 usually, at 60Hz, cause I like the clarity. I use ClearType anti-aliasing and I like it.

Win2K and WinXP are getting along great. I can dualboot and both function perfectly. I installed some apps in WinXP, over the ones in Win2K, but they are the same files in the same location, so they both (the OSes) still work fine with all the progs.
