Win2K, Administrator Cannot Log on

ntrights

Senior member
Hi, need help badly. Suddenly my Win2K Pro unable to log on as Administrator. With this message-The Local Policy of the system does not permit you to logon interactively. can anyone provide me the link to download the file ntrights.exe from the Windows 2000 Resource kit or email it to me.
Thanks.

You've been messing with group policy settings and just discovered that on a stand alone box, any policy set applies to all the local users.
I've used the command line tool secedit to good use in a case like this, it will allow you to import a default security template and fixes this problem.

Since you cannot log on, you have few choices. If you have another box and can telent into the problem box, you can run secedit from there.

If you don't have another box you can work from, you can re-install windows in the same directory and that should fix the problem.

Saltin - Telnet wont work beacuse i have disabled telnet in the target box.

Seamus0714 - With ntrights.exe i would have had a good chance but it looks like i will have to go for the reinstall afterall but i doubt that it will fix the problem since its on a NTFS partition.

Anyway thanks for the suggestions from both of you.
