I have win2000 on this laptop that just crashed bad... however i can still kind of recover files.

how can i save the files on this laptop onto another computer? i was hoping to map a network drive (both computers are on the same hub) through the console window that the win2000 setup allows me to enter, and copy the files over

any better solutions?

thanks

the simple question here is:

how do i map a network drive onto this laptop from the command line? net use doesn't work. i have to use "map" but don't know how to.

HELP!!!

Hmn? What console window are you in, exactly? I doubt it's an actual, standard command line (as in command.com or cmd.exe), if you're accessing it using the setup CD it's probably the recovery console, which has a different set of abilities. Microsoft has a page explaining how to use it.
Unfortunately, I doubt you'll be able to access another computer using or set the system up so that it can be accessed by other computers the erc - AFAIK, the system isn't even "aware" of the LAN, yet. There are commands to copy stuff, but you'd need a second harddrive to do that, not really viable in a laptop. You can, of course, try and recover the system with it, no clue how difficult that would be.
Finally, you probably could remove the laptop's HD and connect it to a PC. I'm not sure if any adapters for data or power connection are required for that, though.
