Whenever I try to open the fonts folder in my Win2000 control panel, I get the error message that "explorer has generated errors and needs to close" which happens indeed and is very annoying since I can't install some really nice fonts I downloaded...:|
Happened to anyone before - is it a known issue or sth in Win2000?

The fonts folder is C:\WINNT\Fonts. Have you run chkdsk /f? Can you browse there in Explorer? Comand Prompt? From command prompt, what happens if you do a directory listing? Do you get errors if you go "copy *.* nul"? How many fonts do you have installed?

I had a computer doing that one. Here's how I fixed it:

1) Download Microsoft's TweakUI and install

2) Go into your Control Panel and open TweakUI and select the Repair tab.

3) Click the PullDown menu and select Repair Font Folder and then click the Repair Now button.

You may have to reboot but this will probably fix your problem.

The tweakUI solution was tested a little while before with no effect....
Thing is that the folder has no functionality even under Windows enviroment but works fine under safe mode (!) where I can copy, delete or install new fonts....The directory listing under command prompt shows exactly the font files I see in safe mode. Number of fonts I have is normal just some added by progs like systran, adobe reader or championship manager game (all uninstalled or fonts deleted but to no good)
Could someone list perhaps the default fonts after a Win2000 clean install so I can maintain only these under safe mode??
Ryoga what do you mean by the copy command there?
