Does Candidate 2 mean this is a Beta version? It looked like the real thing is 1st half, 2008.

Its near final code. If no major bugs are reported or found it could be deemed final and officially become SP3.

I read somewhere is was close to being a RTM release, which as Canterwood mentioned, could be the final SP3 release.

I don't know about a "lot" faster, but it's definately faster than SP2 for me.

My PC is getting old now, and I was sad to have to put my Vista x64 aside until I get a better PC... the performance difference in games was too large for my hardware.

AMD Athlon 64 4000+ (2.4Ghz)
nVidia 7900GT (OC to 550/825)
2GB DDR
nForce 4 based board <-- nVidia doesn't really touch these drivers anymore
etc

XP SP3 greatly outperforms Vista x64 SP1 for my hardware, sadly.
