Hi,

I've been trying to figure out what the heck is the problem with the security alert. It keeps popping up even though I already uncheck the firewall box on the security box.

It will shop up everytime I restart my system.

If anybody knows how to fix it, plesae help me out./

thanks

Control Panel \ Security Center

Make sure that it's set to 'off' there and not set to 'check settings'.
On the left side click the 'Change the way security center alerts me' option.
Then uncheck firewall there.

I did that already but everytime I restart my computer, somehow that thing will get checked by itself.

any other clue how to stop this?

thanks

You can turn off the entire Security Center service by running services.msc
Set it to manual and stop it.

ok, it solves the problem now.

however, why is it keep asking me though? that's something that I don't understand. the check box is not checked but it comes back after I restart the system.

maybe it's a bug on sp2?

maybe other people are having the same problem as mine?

thanks

NOT having that problem w/ SP2 on any of the machines I've installed it, however, I've only disabled the firewall on one of them.

I disabled the firewall checking in the security panel and I found that it was reenabled by itself later on. I don't know why that is. I ended up deciding that I should really be running a firewall anyway, so I left the security panel as it was.

well, I installed sp2 on my other machine and never see that problem but on my primary machine, it acts like that.

however, on my other machine, I am having problem with norton anti virus.

I think I'm gonna open a new thread about it.

anyway about the security issue, the message is basically saying I don't have any firewall and would risk bla bla bla if I don't have one.

Disable the check box will bring it back after restaring the machine.

Kept nagging me too.
I needed to do a fresh install, so I slipped Sp2 onto a CD and installed it, hence I didn't have any Antivirus installed yet, and I have a dedicated firewall, so I don't use one of those either.
The damn thing kept nagging me about no av/fw all the damn time until I turned the service off.

all the security issues gets turned off if your computer is networked through a domain, which i am.

Well I wouldn't exactly call this new security center a bug in SP2......it was designed to work like it is. If you don't like this automatic control of security issues, turn off the security center.

Start/Run/type services.msc/scroll down to security center/properties/change start up from automatic to manual.

No more "annoying" pop-ups. You now have manual control of security issues like in SP1.

well I am not sure if it's a bug or not but if I have turned off the firewall setting at the security center and it comes back automatically then it is a bug to me.
