just checking in to say SP1 working since two daysbefore it came out on WU (got it from MS regular download). followed sual update procedure (no AV etc, shut down all progs), everything is working well here. sorry for those who have problems, tho.

problem free on my 2 machines one updating my current install and the other a clean slipstreamed install on a new build for my kid.

Just my $.02, at first I didn't really think I was having problems with XP after SP1 but now that I am reading more posts with folks that are and after realizing that with SP1 being as was stated before the common denominator, well I've noticed that I too am having many more problems than I once was. I am running XP Home on a laptop and XP Pro (both legit) on a desktop and since I've installed SP1 on both systems they are very slow about shutting down and I also get a lot more crashes and most seem to be related to either IE or Media player (Windows components), but since I use Opera as my default browser it really doesn't matter about the IE crashes, also some of my other non-MS proggies I have take a looooong time to load. I was going to do an uninstall on the laptop first and when I started out I got a list of apps that were loaded since I installed SP1 and the installer recommended that they may not work correctly so I opted to wait it out and hope that maybe a SP1a will be out soon since I don't want to reload a bunch of stuff.

Only problem I had with SP1 was some screw up with games. UT2003, NOLF2, anything that required DX8 or better would not see a video card. I'm running a Gainward GF4 4200. After I did a system restore, games worked fine.

Guess I'll wait for SP2....

I have had 2 problems after I installed WIN XP SP1

* I disabled all software before installing*

1)During initial boot-up when you see the Windows XP Home screen with the green dots moving left to right, system just locks up and I have to do soft re-boot.

2)During normal system work, moving around, using different programs the PC just locks out, mouse just stops moving and BAM I have to do another soft reboot.

****Please HELP...I have had XP Home installed on my system, for 5 months and NEVER did it ever lock up /freeze during boot up or during normal use of programs.

anyone else hear about this? How do I do a system restore....

Also, don't use seatbelts... you might get trapped in a burning automobile instead of being thrown into the clear!

You gotta be kiddin'

I've had a couple "wierdities" here, but I'm not sure if I am ready to blame it on SP1 or not.

Just about the same time I was putting on SP1, I also installed 2 new games (Empire Earth and AvP2).

*(after the SP1 application)* Occasionally, I got BSOD during game play. and then began to see really wierd stuff (truncated files etc....)

I re-installed video, IDE, Highpoint and sound drivers (all of which were, before SP1 and now, non-MicroSoft) Everything seems fine now.

I don't know if one of the game installs fubar'd my setups (two machines, same hardware similar wierdness on each) or if the service patch changed my drivers to different versions for me (thanks M$).

(I didn't bother to do much poking around to check before the re-installs because I have both HDs backed up and didn't really care what was wrong.... just went for the fast fix because I had impatient teenie-boppers with sad eyes waiting for me to get their "lan party" back up and running)

So anyway, still too soon to know if I got to the root of the wierdness or not ( /me knocks on wood )
