Win XP SP1, don't use it...

After my own issues with SP1 and having read through other user issues here I took a look at M$'s selfhelp (newgroups) and found that even more people are complaining there. Most issues range from simply slow load times while browsing to not being able to connect at all as well as reduced system performance. IMO, this SP is not yet ready for general distribution.

There have been remarkably few problems with SP1. The few who do have problems are far more vocal than those who don't have problems.

I'd bet that a good portion of those who have problems, have problems because they didn't disable antivirus software when installing the Service Pack.

No trouble here, and I don't recall disabling Norton or anything when I installed it.

I've had SP1 installed (I did a slipstream install) since the first day it came out, and it has been working fine for me. There is a noticeably faster load time on my computer, boots up ~5 seconds or so faster, and games are loading quicker. I have had zero problems so far, if anything, my computer runs better.

My system starts slower (5-10 sec) but just along as it is stable,
I could care less.

too busy gaming.

How did I know this post would attract all the one's that haven't had any problems? Oh well, I've seen to many people here and on the M$ Newsgroups complaing of issues that they weren't able to identify until they look at the common denominator: SP1.

Good luck that decide to use it, and continuing good luck to those thare are using w/o problems. Personally I'm not going to until M$ addresses what I feel are legitmate and real issues...

No problems here and I've installed on 9 systems now including 4 of my own and 5 customers systems who asked me to come over and do it for them.

If you think about it, it stands to reason only those WITH problems are going to be posting on the newsgroups or other places/forums with threads concerning SP problems. As was stated above, this SP so far has caused fewer problems so far than SP1 or SP2 Win 2K!;)

I have been using it since M$ had officially released it. I for one will not uninstall it. I used to have IE crash on me at least twice a day. I haven't had the first crash since installing sp1.

That's the nature of the forums on MS. If MS installs an useless shortcut on your desktop, all of the sudden people's computers start crashing and they post the crap out of MS because it's definitely their fault. It's like some ppl here who o/c and fry their boards and then complain about the board's instability. Hey, MS forums & kb's are great for finding out a lot of things because none of us know every simple or complex solution to the OS. Next time wait until the dust clears if you're weary of MS updates.

you weren't real specific with your problems, so i searched.... and here's an example of what i said with a guy who did not even have sp1....

link

and ur problem seems like your network is loading slow (maybe not at all as you tell) on a cold boot which mine has done with win2k/xp with my old 3com....maybe try bootvis or reinstalling your NIC cleanly? Are you even logged onto your network after a cold boot? I think there's a way if u use bootvis and analyze the results to find out what is not loading up properly or slow with winxp.

Well I've got a little problem with it on one system; the link is in my signature. It doesn't seem to like having the pagefile enabled.
Otherwise, it seems fine elsewhere. (though I am making a post up now about that damn IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL junk, which may not be related to SP1)

No problems here, and on the 8 or so other systems I installed it on either.

I havent got any real issues with SP1. I havent noticed any speed issues. However, Red Alert 2 seems to stutter every now and again, and when I'm winning a Skirmish match it crashes saying it "encountered an error and will close", but I intepret that as "I'm sorry, it looked like you were going to win, we cant have that so Red Alert 2 will now close"
