Good advice. My favorite method, if possible, is to do the install from behind a firewalled network, so you're not depending on XP's built in firewall for protection (it should work, but one never knows...). Something I've not done yet, but plan to experiment with soon, is slipstreaming a Service Pack into the CD used for the installation. That is possible, I know, but what I don't know is if it's possible to also slipstream other patches and updates released post-SP. Has anyone successfully done that?Originally posted by: EeyoreX
Either A) install thrid party application(s) like AV software and/or firewall or B) enable Windows XPs firewall. This will do a good enough job to prevent most things (Blaster, et al) from hammering you before you update for everything else.

This is another good idea. I, however, am too lazy so I just stick with my method. Though I don't reinstall, its for when I set up computers with XP for other people.Bet I've posted this 20 times. Word will get out eventually I suppose.
