Which programs specifically? What peripherals have no driver support?

If I understand you correctly; I think you are asking if Windows Vista is strictly 64BIT. The answer is that Vista will come in both 32 and 64bit versions.

xp 64bit can't "downgrade" to Vista 32bit, only to 64 bit version. I believe vista retail will have 32 and 64 on 2 disks right?

No, I believe that you will have to buy one or the other. I do not think you get both versions. However, this could only pertain to the OEM copies and retail may get 32 and 64 as you suggested.

If anyone is looking to buy this in order to have something temporarily before Vista, keep in mind that a free 6-month trial version is available on the microsoft website.

Mainstream hardware is supported very well, with the notable exception of a lot of TV tuner cards. Hauppauge does not support their older line of 787 based tuners, most other makes don't either.
Besides that I have not encountered any problems at all, but the benefit that the odd 64-bit version of a game (UT2004, Farcry for example) run on my system and do give some benefits.

To sum it up: it works well, but it can be a hassle. If you're not a really good tinkerer, don't bother. To be honest.. if you have to ask, you don't *need* it. And it's too much of a PITA just to mess with it.

Expect the same thing that happend with your tuner to happen again when you use Vista. Except that next time you will have no clue what piece of hardware will be in compatable untill you have finished your installation.

Good price on a nice OS.

Just installed and liking it despite all the annoyances. Wish there were 64bit browser plugins for I think the biggest difference for me has been the browser speeds for content/text-intensive sites which is what I use primarily.
