Win XP Pro vs. Personal

The main differences between Personal is Professional is that Personal won't let you join an NT Domain (they want corporate users to use the more expensive professional version) and it will not support dual processors.

 
Professional is "strict super-set" of Home (Personal).

There is nothing that is in Home that isn't in Pro.

Pro has dual CPU and multi-monitor support.
Pro can join Domains, Home can only join networks.
Pro has IIS servers, I don't think Home does.
Pro has better security, home users are all "Owners" (Admins) I think.

There was a good list at winsupersite.com of what Home lacks compared to pro. The list ins't that important for most people. But look at that site.

Microsoft recently decided that the Home version would get multi-monitor support.
 
Pro doesn't have the cutesy MSN like login interface with the icons and such.

At least I don't think so... there might be something you can change to get it.

Pro uses the same login screen as 2K, only the widgets are like XP, and not 2K.
 
Maybe I'm slow, but doesn't 'multi-monitor support' depend on the vid card and the manufacturer's drivers for that specific card? What you guys are saying is that a Matrox G450 Dual Head with proper drivers would not work properly with the 2nd monitor in a non 'multi-monitor' OS?

No, sorry I was referring to Multiple Monitors through Multiple Videocards. A single video card that drives multiple monitors should work fine.

But HansXP said that Home will have MultiMonitor support as well.
Which makes sense because Win98SE and WinME do, and people that use those OSes and MultiMonitor need a viable upgrade path. And since I don't believe Win98/ME are qualifying upgrade products to Pro, it makes sense that it would have to include it in Home ed.
