Hi all,

Ive come across this annoying problem that I thought someone might know about. Since I have upgraded my home machine to Win XP Pro all cd music has been skipping about every ten-fifteen seconds irregardless of the player I use (Real One, Windows Media Player etc).

I just thought that it was a hardware problem, but I have recently upgraded my work PC to XP from 2K and it has started there as well. I then tested all the CDs on other 2K machines and they play flawlessly.

Has anyone seen this before and/or have any ideas of a solution? I guess I thought it was a driver or firmware problem maybe?

Thanks,
Joshua

I got skipping with winamp when I had my hard drive on the built in promise controller on my motherboard. When I switched to the regular ide ports, the problem went away.

Yeah sorry.

Home Machine:

AMD Athlon 1.2Ghz
1 G ram
Asus A7V 133 motherboard
Sound: Creative Soundblaster Live
Video: Geforce 2 400 MX
CDROM: not sure of brand, about 40x, nothing special
CDR: Acer 32x8x4

Work Machine:

Dell OptiPlex GX110
P 3 650 Mhz
512 M ram
nondescript Dell motherboard
Sound: onboard
Video: Riva TNT Model 64
CDROM: Lite-On LTN483S 48x

Thats as exact as I can be right now - Im at work so cant find out the cdrom brand and exact speed at home.

Cheers,
Joshua
