Am building a p4 system with probably 1.8 gig cpu @ 2.4 gig. i have heard windows xp won't load if the cpu is o/c. is that true.

i tried to o/c my 1.4 gig tbird to 1.6 gig. the system posted fine but win xp won't load.

can any body help me out here. thanks.

dababus, I installed XP Pro on my T Bird 1.33 OC'd to 1.5 and it installed just fine. However, if I were you I would set your CPU back to stock settings and try to install XP then. After you get XP loaded then try to OC your system.

ok, i'll try this. but i want to know if that would work with p4 o/c combo. am not sure about this. i never owned a p4 system before.

The reason it is recommended to not overclock when your are installing your OS is to ensure you get a good install. One symptom of overclocking problems is file corruption. You want to ensure you have a good load before you start playing.

No idea if it is a P4 problem or not, I don't own one. Maybe someone else will step in here and give you some more info. Good luck!

if the OC is truly stable, you should be fine. but the windows installation process is supposed to be very stressful, so a "99%" stable machine might result in a bad install.

I personally test overclocks by installing w2k or XP, if it installs fine oced then it should remain stable... I think if the cpu is unstable during an install then it could be unstable at another, more inopportune, time.

I'm running WinXP and Win2000 on a P4 1.8A OCed to 2.3Ghz. It works perfectly fine. I have absolutely zero issues with my setup.
