Are there any differences in fuctionality between Windows xp professional academic upgrade vs. Windows xp professional besides the price difference? I'm a student so i qualify for the academic pricing. The regular upgrade sells for 199 and the academic is 99.99.

There isn't a difference except that you can't legally use it once you graduate.

Well, i kinda know that. Are there any differences in the functionality of windows with the academic version? Does anyone even own the academic version?

Not true. I read my license agreement, and the license transfers to me when I graduate. Maybe that's just with my school though.

They figure it's an investment in their future....they're right:Q

i thought with academic you couldn't (read: aren't supposed to) compile distributeable programs? (i.e. make a profit)

I think that the you cannot upgrade from the academic version to the next version "Longhorn".

Not really a problem - when that happens you just get the academic version of Longhorn. For staff and faculty, graduation, etc., is not an issue.
