Win XP new install second HD problem

I was having a few issues with WinXP so I used a second hard drive to get a fresh install. The hard drive I installed XP is set up just like the one used before. It is set up with two partitions. No problem with that hard drive everything went smoothly. I also have a second hard drive on this rig. It is a 320 gig Seagate, with only one partition. I use removable sliders for the hard drives so I can take them in and out easily. So the second drive was not in the rig when I installed XP. When I put the second drive back into the rig windows recognized it as usual. When I tried to access the drive windows said it was not formatted and asked if I wanted to do that now. When this happened I put the old WINXP drive back and sure enough my second drive was fine as usual. Why does the new install think the drive is not formatted? Any ideas?

That was it I put on sp1 and sp2, and there it was. the funny think SP 1&2 were stored on the disk I has having trouble seeing. I jusc copied to disk loaded and that was it.
