Win XP networking HELP!!

Hey everyone,
I have a question regarding networking with Win XP.
I have a Win XP machine as my main computer. This computer is
connected to the internet through my DSL line. My Win XP machine
is connected to my secondary computer, a Win ME machine. I have
the computers networked together and I have my Win XP machine
sharing its internet connection. Everything works fine from my
Win ME machine, I can connect to the internet, and I can browse my
Win XP files super fast. However, my Win XP machine is having issues
browsing my Win ME files. When ever I try to go to My Network Places
and go to my Win ME machines shared folders it is REAL slow!!!!!
Once I click on Entire network, it takes a good two minutes to see my
workgroup, then once I click on my workgroup, it takes a good two minutes
to see my Win ME machine, then when I click on my Win ME machine, it
takes a good two minutes before my shared folders come up. This same
process on my Win ME machine takes a half second.

I think the problem is Win XP is seaching the internet for my Win ME machine.
Everytime I click my my entire network, workgroup, or Win ME shared folders
my activity light on my DSL modem flashes for a good two minutes before I
get a response from Win XP. Is there a way to tell Win XP to directly
to my Win ME machine without it seaching my DSL connection???

Thanks in advance!!!

That didn't help. I regedited and the key that tweakxp said to delete
was not there. Thanks anyway!!

Anyone else!???

Ok....an update.
When I try to map a Win ME folder to a Networked drive on Win XP, everything is
perfect. I can broswer my Win ME files from XP with ease.
However, if I try to add a network place under 'my network places' the same
situation I wrote above occurs. ssslllooooowwwww!

I tweak listed above on tweakxp.com is interesting, however, the registry key
listed in that tweak is not listed under regedit on my Win XP machine. There
is another key listed, however, it has a different name. Should I delete it anyway???

So I tried to delete the key that was listed, it didn't have any noticable difference.
I have two NICs installed into this computer. One for my DSL line, the other for a crossover
cable to my Win ME machine. Win XP must be running into some issues with my other
NIC. Everytime I try to browse my home network from my XP machine, it is real slow
and the activity light on my DSL modem blinks for a while each time I try to browse a
new folder on my Win ME machine. I tried disconnecting my DSL line and trying to browse
the network, however, that still didn't have any effect......

Anyone else have this issue???

edit n/m.

I can't read.

yeah it looks like xp is going throught the internet. A good test is sending a file. If it is super slow it is going through the internet...

It took me 15 minutes to copy 1.2gigs of files from my 1.4ghz Athlon Win XP machine to
my 433mhz Celeron Win ME machine at 100 baseT. Does this seem slow???

I don't have experience with running 2 NICs, but is there anyone you could bum a hub from just long enough to let you try running on a single NIC?

(if it works better, hubs are cheap)

I will try removing my DSL connection NIC and just using my home network NIC. IF that solves
the problem, i wonder how I can get Win XP to work well with 2 NICs???

No luck.....
I removed my NIC for my DSL connection and just tried to network Win XP to Win ME. Win ME is speedy and
slick, Win XP is still slow as dirt......browsing my XP machine from ME its like my XP machine is just another
hard drive, however, browsing my ME machine on XP is like I am connected over a 2400 baud modem.......

gggrrrrr

well bummer,

I was really hoping that maybe it was just a contrary NIC or something.....

srry I couldn't offer a solution (that worked)

I have a similar problem. It's been posted on the board several times before by other people having the same problems. No one has been able to come up with an answer yet. I'd be interested in a fix for this also.
