ok formally when a computer connected to the server it asked for a user name and password, well at some point the user typed in the user name and password and checked the remember my password box. now the problem is the network username and password for this computer are different to get into the server but because that box was checked the computer is still pushing the same old user name and pass that was saved at the check box. this gives error that says "you do not have permission to access this ..................."

so how do i purge the previous saved password and username, so the computer asks me for the username and password again when hitting the server?

I'd ask how you have the shares setup. Shouldn't ask you for a user/pass combo. Should just use your windows authentication if your logging into an XP or 2K box. If your talking about a mapped drive then just drop the mapping and remap.

nope not a mapped drive and yep xp asks for username and password when connecting to a server 2003 box, how do i purge the stored user and pass so it asks for it again?

To remove the Stored User Names and Passwords from a Windows XP system:

Click [Start] [Run] type Control keymgr.dll
Remove the entries from the list.

You can also get to the same dialog this way:
Type Control Userpasswords2 in the RUN box, click the Advanced tab, then click the Manage Passwords button
or
Double-click User Accounts in the Control Panel, click the Advanced tab, then click the Manage Passwords button

edit: fixed a typo that made the instructions not work. 😛
