Hey, once in a while my mouse will skip in Winxp home edition. Like it freezes for a sex then comes back to life. Anyone else have this problem?

It also causes my half-life CS to skip, freeze once in a while too... sucks when i die because of it :)

Hmm...lol. I know it's a typo...but it sounds pretty funny. Anyway, which mouse are you using? Try downloading updated drivers to see if they help. As for the problem with Counter-Strike, what kind of skipping do you get? Just check to see that Mouse Filter is off, and you might want to raise the sensitivity a bit...but this solution is for the problem where the mouse moves really slow, and then just gives a burst of speed. Or something to that effect ;). Hope this helps.

if your mouse is on usb, put it on ps/2. in general, ps/2 works better.

I was wondering when someone else was going to post a msg with this problem. I have had 3 systems that the mouse went beserk on. All of them have been PS/2 mice. It occurs randomly for no apparent reason. The mice would lock, jump randomly, and not just a skip. I have since attached optical usb mice to these systems and all is fine. The mice (ps/2) in question works fine on W98/W2K systems that I have tested them on. I just gave up on trying to get them to work under XP.

I am not saying that PS/2 mice will not work under XP. This is just what I have encountered on 3 systems. One system being mine and 2 at work.

Well with winME in general ... optical mouse suck because of the refresh rate thing... the mouse seems like it's on crack ... but w2k and 98 work well

This never happened in Win98... it is more like a pc fart where everything goes for a split second.

Watch your hard drive light when this happens. Mine mouse started skipping around and I notice that the hard drive was running in time with the skipping. I turned off all automatic updating in XP and and Notron SystemWorks. Thst did the trick.

I have the same problam with my logitec optical usb in winXP. I actually had the same problem in Win2k, but switching to ps2 solved it. Unfortunatly i don't have that option anymore:(
