So a friend of mine can't get into his computer due it it asking for the XP logon password. I don't know if he has his story right but for weeks it was warning him to change his XP password (I don't know why). Apparently today he turned on his computer and something about his old logon name vanished, all that appears is "Gateway User" and it asks for his old password and a new password. He said he has tried everything but he can't get in. Is there a way to bypass the logon screen, maybe some 3rd party software? Thanks guys.

Just a suggestion.

Log on as Administrator (this account is automatically setup during installation) and use the users & groups in control panel to reset/remove the password associated with that account.

Another question, a lot of times you find that the person doesn't set a password for administrator, is there a default one. Reason for this is when you put in the Recovery CD and do a repair, you get prompted for the administrator's password. Thanks!
