win xp home problems

Can get to websites but win update wont load...

can goto like www.mozilla.com and download mozilla cause the page never finishing loading and it says its done.

also had a problem installing xp sp2 update on laptop had to do it 3 times.

laptop is a gateway. Cant goto gateways site and download there updates .

I try to change browser setting tells me It is recommended medium and it wont go lower, then I load user accounts the window don't even pop up it will open but no text inside window. it will sit there also.

can I upgrade home to pro ??

I'm assuming the registry is no good. ?? any ideas anyone thanks ??
 
Have you done a virus/spyware scan?
sounds like spyware or a virus to me (most likely spyware)
 
Who knows, if you have no data that needs to be preserved on that machine, I would just re-format install.... You would have been finished with it all already if you just started that route...

Oh, but look to see if you can get your drivers off tha tthing before. I just did a new install on another gateway, but before I did, I found their own website didn't have all of the drivers needed, such as the PCMICA bus drivers (shows up as a mass storage device) and the VIA drivers were no where to be found on the driver's page for the laptop model.
